Serbia signed the Artemis Accords on July 16 at NASA Headquarters, becoming the 69th country to join the U.S.-led framework for space exploration best practices. Serbia's Foreign Minister Marko Đurić signed the document alongside NASA Deputy Administrator Matt Anderson. The signing carries particular symbolic weight given Serbia's historical role in the Apollo program through Serbian engineers and the "Serbian Seven," a group NASA and Serbian officials highlighted during the ceremony.
Serbia's decision to sign is notable because the country joined China's International Lunar Research Station effort in May 2024, making it a participant in both major lunar exploration initiatives. Thailand and Senegal have similarly signed the Artemis Accords while also supporting China's ILRS, and U.S. officials have stated that ILRS signatories are welcome to join the Accords. Serbia is the 10th country to sign the Artemis Accords in 2026.
